As downtown groups fight over different things, there is growth happening. Because there are so many good elements to being in downtown Bowling Green. While others fight over petty politics others help rebuild downtown to it’s old glory. Another brick to rebuilding downtown happened this weekend as “Spotcash” sign re-lit in glory at Labold and Sons. Kudos to Danielle and Tim for restoring a cornerstone to downtown!

Tony Felchlin of Bowling Green works on an old neon sign Friday in front of Labold and Sons Salvage, which occupies the old Spot Cash Store space on Main Avenue. Felchlin and Bob Basham of Neon Campus were repairing the sign for Labold and Sons, owner Danielle Labold said. “It hasn’t been lit for more than 30 years,” she said. Demetrius Freeman of WKU Photojournalism Department shot a wonderful video of one of our favorite Fountain Square Partners, Danielle Labold of Labold and Sons. It really does show the great mind behind the almost museum/carnival/circus/art gallery/antique store that is Labold and Sons at Spot Cash:

I’ve heard Labold and Sons Spot Cash described as “An antique shop for people who also love historical museums.” It’s very true since it’s often hard to tell the difference when you’re browsing the store with the helpful guidance of Danielle and Kenneth. The building itself is incredible – and is a Bowling Green icon.

Here are some of the beautiful gems inside Labold:

Just an amazing piece for your home.

The dishes inside are wonderful. Look at those patterns.

Another great vintage dresser, perfect for your home.

Look at the handles on this beautiful vintage dresser.

So many people come in for the art and small items, it’s the furniture they need to look at!

The toy section makes little kids smile and us big kids. Last week found an awesome 1960’s war board game!

Send in the Clowns!

All Trucker hats for $1.99!

Record Players……

…….Record Players

…… and more record players.

Labold and Sons Spot Cash BASEMENT SHOPPING IS NOW OPEN. Plus, Bikes, Bikes, Bikes and More Bikes!

You’ve been in Labold and Sons Spot Cash but have you been in the basement? Whoa! With repurposed wood, Bikes, Signs, Chairs, doors and other odds and ends it’s an adventure just walking down the stairs. Oh and since we mentioned bikes, check these out:

1952 Schwinn Typhoon  – super nice original bike that was bought new here in B.G. at Howard’s bicycle shop.  It is all original from paint to tires.  Highly desired standard Typhoon (painted wheels and fenders versus chrome).

1963 Schwinn Tiger – I have changed this bike around a bit since this photo was taken but thought it was a cool shot anyways.

1975 Schwinn Stingray Fastback – Super wide rear slick, extra tall sissy bar, streamers, rear view mirrior, hand brakes etc.  It is a nice original bike loaded with accessories.  This is Danielle’s personal ride.

1977 Nishiki -  Very nice original road bike.  It has a unique lugged frame with good components.  These bikes are going up in value fast and are hard to find.

1967 Columbia lightweight English racer-  Nice original bike, Columbia was America’s first bicycle company.  True barn find from beautiful downtown Alvaton, Ky.

1968 Schwinn Typhoon/Stingray- Cool little bike with accessory bars and white stripe tires (those tires are rare and cost as much as car tires).

1963 Schwinn- Set up to look like an old board track racer.  Fun to ride and looks like a super expensive ex-racer.  Some bikes are just cooler than others.

’75 and ’68 Stingrays

Group of Schwinn Stingrays – left to right ’68, ’67, & ’75.  The coppertone one in the middle is a super rare 5 speed (notice tall shifter) that is currently undergoing a light restoration.
